Add a pop of colour
Whether you are a fan of clean, modern living or a bright, lively space, there is nothing like adding a fresh pop of colour! There is actually some science on how colour effects your mood and how you work or interact in a space.
Colour psychology is a powerful interior design tool that impacts the mood of a room more so than any other factor. Different shades evoke certain emotions so, when choosing your colours, it’s important to consider the kind of atmosphere you wish to create and which colours will help you achieve this.
Red, for example, is known to raise the level of energy in a space! Which is why its is a great option for home offices and creative spaces. Whereas,
Yellow is known as a perfect choice for kitchens, dining rooms and bathrooms, where it is known for being welcoming and energising. Stick with golden shades and use it to brighten darkened corners of your home to create a feeling of light and space. Check out this fantastic article from Livforinteriors for more on Colour Psychology in your home!
Of course, YOU LOVE WHAT YOU LOVE, so add whatever POP youd like to freshen up your space.
Lighten it up
Brightening up a space can make a room feel ENTIRELY different! Its super simple to make a space brighter, either by introducing new light, such as with a gorgeous lamp, or enhancing light you already have by changing up your curtains to allow more natural light in or by changing light shades.
Some spaces in your home work best if they are cozy and dim, but why not work on opening up your home office, social spaces like the kitchen, dining, living and the bedrooms to more light.
Even if most of your house does actually have good light, getting natural light into a dark room is tough to do, which may result in that room barely getting used.
You can always install windows throughout your home to try to increase natural light, but that’s expensive and there are much more simple ways to do it, even if it’s just creating the illusion of more natural light with a beautiful mirror or reflective surfaces.
Bring the outside, in!

Having plants & greenery around the home has been proven to have significant benefits on both our physical and mental health by both purifying the air we breath and improving our mood! I personally havent ever really trusted myself with keeping a plant alive… so I stick to Cactus! But there are so many gorgeous options, whether you decide on a low maintenance succulent, or a small tree for your hall way you’ll see a big difference in your space and how you feel when living in it.
You could go for plants or you could get some beautiful flowers! Pop down to a local flower shop and pick out some fresh flowers each week as a treat to yourself, or even order some direct to your door. Letterbox flowers are even a thing, literally a box thin enough to fit through your letterbox … with flowers in!

Seriously though, there are some beautiful sites where you can order flowers, Bloom & Wild might be my favourite though for a few reasons, the flowers are gorgeous and always come super fresh, plus you can sign up for a subscription and be delivered fresh flowers every month for yourself or someone you care about! Is that not the CUTEST idea.
Soften up
I am a SUCKER for a gorgeous throw or comfy cushions!! And its such a simple, cosy, awesome way to freshen up your space (especially in winter as the weather gets colder!). Maybe you’d like to add a pop of colour or pattern into a space, a cushion is the perfect, non committal, way to add something BOLD!
2022 TREND ALERT!! At the moment I am LOVING knot cushions!! Love the style, I think they are so unique and such a great way to add levels to your space compared to the standard flatter cushions!! They are popping up in more and more articles and homeware shoots. Keep an eye on these in 2022, they will be everywhere!
Adding a blanket or throw, or MULTIPLE of them adds so much to a space! Layering a chunky knit blanket, with a fluffy throw, just levels up the space instantly. Other ways to soften up a space is to introduce soft furnishings such as changing leather for fabric chairs, adding a gorgeous fabric pouffe or a footstall.
Looking to freshen up your bedroom space? Soften it up with layering blankets, adding some cushions and treating yourself to a fluffy or teddy borg fabric duvet set!
My FAVOURITE fabric of the moment for blankets and bedding though is CHENILLE! SUPER soft, cosy, and GORGEOUS.
Step up the organisation
No matter who you are, what you do or how you live, organisation is essential and can be SUCH a lovely way to freshen with your space! Storage and organisation doesnt have to feel clinical or office like, you can organise your space with accessories and storage which show your personality, which add colour and that can ADD to your space as much as a ornament or some art might even.
The living room may be the most lived in room in the house but it needn’t be the least organised! You can easily add some additional storage in the form of a magazine rack, or upgrading your coffee table or side cabinets to ones with more storage. Simple changes which will clear the space, provide a space for everything and, you guessed it, freshening up the space!
Home office spaces have seen a HUGE rise in popularity in the last few years, with the huge increase in working from home and people starting their own businesses due to the pandemic, theres never been a better time to freshen up your work space than now! Home office / working spaces are probably the MOST varied home to home, by size and location.
Not all of us have the luxury of a separate, dedicated home office, some are spaces we have taken over in a corner of a bedroom, or the kitchen, or the lounge, or in a nook in a hallway or under the stairs.

Art & accessories
Arguably the absolute best way to freshen up any space, is to simply add something beautiful. And with that, beautiful art has never been easier to get in your home. With the huge rise of print on demand art over recent years, art has never been more accessible in your own home!
What I love about adding art and accessories to any space is that art is subjective and you can add it to every single room, in completely different ways.
Kids room? Add some fun numbers & letters prints or art created around their favourite shows and characters.
Living room & dining room? Introduce some art & accessories which match up with the colour schemes and add pops of colour.
I really recommend Etsy as your go to spot for budget friendly art, there are THOUSANDS of sellers offering everything from personalized prints to print at home to beautiful hand painted pieces and everything in between. There is something to suit every taste, budget and size preference. A lot of digital art thats available is available in numerous sizes and have the options of different frames, colours and medias.
Also, add some gorgeous accessories! They dont need to be functional or have any particular purpose other than to be beautiful and freshen up your space! Simple as that!!
Add a personal touch
My final tip for freshening up your space is my favourite, make it personal!
Adding in personalized prints and images is super cheap and simple, buying some frames and putting out some photos of family and friends and finding posters, merch or accessories from your favourite brands and tv shows.
As long as something feels personal to you, thats enough to make a space feel new.
A fantastic purchase to make is a Bluetooth photo printer, Instax do a fab one and so do Polaroid but there are a bunch out there. Lets face it everyone has most of their photos on their phone, with these you can print via bluetooth in seconds and put your pictures out!! Definitely recommend!
There are so many gorgeous ways to showcase photos. You can get fairy lights with little clips for polaroids, these add some soft light aswell so, win win. Or I personally love multiple photos, frames too! Make them a bit arty, its a real statement piece.
