Hey Joey, THANK YOU so so much for taking the time to answer a few questions. I love your blog, I love your message and everything you stand for. Its fantastic to have a male blogger featured, especially one who focuses so much on mens mental health and the harder but super important topics to cover!
Your Name: Joey
Your Blog: concealedvoices.com
Your Niche: Men’s mental health, fitness and lifestyle
How long have you been blogging: Just over a year (2020)
So, for anyone who’s not read your blog before, tell us what your blogs all about!?
My blog is predominately about discussing men’s mental health, lifestyle and fitness. I write about my experiences to hopefully encourage young boys and men to become better versions of themselves.
The bigger goal is to create a place where men can interact with each other, share values, seek guidance, invest in youth, and help those struggling with mental health problems.
What made you want to start blogging? What’s your inspiration!?
My inspiration comes from wanting to be a role model to millions of young boys and men over the world.
Do you blog full time or do you have another job too?
I currently work at a large retailer but I hope to be a full-time blogger within the next 2 years. I have a plan in place and excited for the future.
Have you managed to monetise yet? If you have, how so!
No. I don’t plan on monetising anything until I reach a specific number of followers across all my platforms. I set my goals very high – and I will achieve them..
Do you have any other creative paths – youtube, insta, podcasts, etc…
I’m creating a YouTube channel in the fall of 2021. I’m a little nervous but I can’t wait to get started. I think it will take my project to the next level. I also enjoy using Canva to create images for my Instagram page.
What’s been your proudest moment since you started blogging?
The 100th blog comment was a huge milestone, although nothing was more exciting than my 1st!
I’ve also had so much positive feedback and encouragement from people about my project. I’m incredibly proud of myself.
And whats been your lowest point?
I struggled for the first couple of months to attract visitors to my blog. I also had difficulties networking with people on social media. I remember speaking to one guy who spoke to me about his mental health and how – like me – he feels the world is against him. He encouraged me to continue believing in my words and not give up on my blog. Nevertheless, he unfollowed me a few days later and as ridiculous as it may sound – it really bothered me. If I can’t inspire the men whom I’m trying to help, then what chance do I have with my project? Thankfully, I stuck with it and my blog/project is thriving now.
What’s your favourite part of blogging? And what’s your least favourite part!?
My favourite part is when I receive a notification in my inbox about a new comment on my blog. It brightens up my day and motivates me to continue doing what I love.
My least favourite part has nothing to do with the most obvious things, such as no new comments or low interactions on social media. I hate it when good and respected members of our community leave and never return. I’ve made wonderful friendships with many bloggers but it’s a revolving door, unfortunately. I try not to get too attached to people nowadays.
What’s your creative process?
It sometimes takes me several weeks to get into the right frame of mind to write about a particular subject. I want to create an appetite for readers to fancy more of my content. Eventually I write all my ideas as a mind bubble on the whiteboard in my bedroom and evaluate all options. When I’m happy I simply start writing randomly on a blank document on my laptop and see where my mind and vision take me.
What’s your ultimate goal???
To make Concealed Voices one of the most popular men’s websites in the world. I hope to educate, inspire, and motivate millions of young boys and men. It’s a huge task but I honestly believe I will succeed.
What’s your best piece of advice for someone who’s just starting a blog or thinking of starting one?
You must instill discipline and be consistent. It’s easy to create a blog (a template takes a few minutes) but bringing attention and recognition to your work is the hardest part. It took me 4 months before I saw any progress. However, my patience was rewarded and so will yours if you stick to it.
What’s been the biggest surprise since you started your blogging career?
The blogging community is incredibly loyal and full of amazing people. I was sceptical before joining because social media can be daunting as an outsider, but the support has been overwhelming.
