Goodbye 2021, HELLO 2022!!
WHO knows what the upcoming year will bring but you know what, we have to stay HOPEFUL. Hope for the best, plan for the worst as the old saying goes? or is that a bit dark??? HA, anyway.
New year is a fresh start! A new year to reach goals and make memories, 365 days of promise.
DO YOU set new years resolutions? If the answer is NO then why not? and are you sure?
Do you set yourself goals for the year? Do you make plans to achieve certain things or be in a different place to where you are now by the end of the year?
Sounds an awful lot like you might be making resolutions to me……. Dont get me wrong I understand the hate that New Years Resolutions get. BUT thats our own fault really… we set too high expectations of ourselves! So Iv broken it down into 3 easy steps to help you SMASH your new years resolutions…

FIRST STEP… Think about WHAT you want your life to look like by next New Years and your WHY…
Really think about where you want to be this time next year, this is the best place to start!
Iv met people who have set goals month by month but it doesnt work!
Start by focusing on your end goal. Come New Years 2022, what do you want to have achieved? something specific!
Do you want to have stopped smoking? or moved home? or have a certain amount in savings??? or be making a certain amount a month?
When thinking about what you hope to have changed or achieved, focus on your WHY.
WHY do you want to quit smoking?
WHY do you want to move home?
WHY do you want to be have a set amount in savings?
It may sound like there are obvious reasons but you need to focus on your own specific reasons WHY to remain motivated and really feel like its going to be worth it.
Dont be ridiculous though.
I am sure wed all love to be a millionaire whos solved world peace and climate change by the end of the year but its unrealistic for most so stop. Its demotivating to constantly be trying to achieve unattainable goals.
So think really hard about where you want to be.
And then get this down into something PHYSICAL you can see or read or hear.
- A vision board
- A video to yourself or a voice recording
- Write it out in a list
- Jump on Canva and create a graphic
SECOND STEP… Work out the HOW…
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you almost certainly wont smash your resolutions in the long term if you start off at a unattainable level.
What I mean is, most people who start new years and go cold turkey on smoking or immediately start going to the gym 4 times a week and only eating greens, those folk arnt going to make it to February still sticking to any resolutions!!!
These are New YEAR resolutions we are talking about here, not New DAY resolutions. You dont need to try to see a result as quick as possible, not if you want long lasting change.
DID YOU KNOW… January 19th is known around the world as the day which most people have given up their resolutions.
SO, what you want to do is look at your resolution – the end goal! And then you want to break it down into achievable chunks for the year.
Ok so I am going to use some specific examples to best get my point across…
QUITTING SMOKING – Rather than thinking ‘I must not smoke in the new year’ and just quitting cold turkey, start the year by cutting down. If you smoke 20 a day currently, cut down to 15 a day in January, then 12 a day in February, then 10 a day in March and so on… going from 20 to 15 isnt that scary right? Then continue making those small steps, by the end of the year you’ll have cut down to nothing potentially or if not you’ll have cut down a LOT anyway.
I am not a expert on addiction or quitting habits – I just know about setting goals and achieving them! Of course, everyone’s experience is different! I am purely sharing examples which I know from experience, can WORK!
WANTING TO EARN 5K A MONTH – This one you cant possibly expect to just START earning from month 1. For obvious reasons! So make a plan, you want to be earning 5K a month by the end of 2022, ok so get working. Look at all your income streams, look at whats working and whats not. Do you have ideas which youve been meaning to bring to life? Get working on it! You have 11 months until December to gradually build up your income.
Work on a marketing plan, learn from experts in your field and track your earnings over the year, make sure to pay attention to whats working and whats not!
FINAL STEP… Get STARTED, TRACK your progress and stay CONSISTENT!
Set up a physical progress tracker, you can get elaborate on Canva or with a spreadsheet on Excel, or you can can go old school and grab a pad and paper. Draw yourself up a chart, track your progress!
There are tonnes of journals and daily diaries out there that help you track goals. My favourite are from CGD London, Iv used their journals every year for about 3 years now and I love them.
There are also some fantastic books out there thatll give you a kick up the ass!
Here you can find 5 books that will CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
Check in with yourself, especially after the first few weeks. The novelty will wear off!!! People around you will start quitting their resolutions, let that MOTIVATE you to keep going. Change is HARD! If it was easy, everyone would quite habits they hate and be making millions. Your brain will try to procrastinate, you’ll feel like you wont be able to achieve it so ‘why bother’?
TAKE A STEP BACK and check in with yourself. GO BACK TO STEP ONE! Focus on your WHY and look at or listen to that PHYSICAL reminder you made for yourself… your vision board, your letter, whatever it was you created when you were feeling super motivated to set your resolution. then REMIND YOURSELF OF YOUR HOW! Remember each step you are taking, and how far you have come. This is where TRACKING becomes so so important, TRACK your progress every month, how far have you gotten to your goal, what have you achieved, let your own progress motivate you to keep GOING!

New Years Resolutions dont need to be daunting! SO… go smash it…
One of the reasons I love setting New Years resolutions is because you have no choice on the start date!
January 1st. That’s it! You dont get to say ‘the diet starts Monday’ ‘I’ll start next week’. NO, time is unforgiving. You dont get to hold it back. Its coming for you, whether you are ready for it or not. So you have a choice, you can commit and be proud of yourself in 1 years time, or you can not even try and repeat this horrid cycle again next year,
Whether you succeed or you dont quite make it, work hard to better yourself for YOU. If you dont completely quit a bad habit, but you cut down loads then thats still a WIN! If your target is 5k a month income, and you get to the end of the year and you are only hitting 4.5k… You are SO much closer to 5k than you were in January?
Youve got what it takes to achieve bloody anything, I hope 2022 is a year filled with happiness, love and success, whatever those things look like to you.
Remember, be kind, to yourself & others.
Happy New Year!
